Pack enough water and light snacks for the event. You may want to carry a backpack or fanny pack to hold personal items during the cleanup.

Bring steady gloves, preferably garden gloves. We will have extra disposable gloves if needed.

We will bring trash bags, trash grabbers, and extra gloves if needed.

Bring bug spray!!

During the Cleanup

  • Don’t forget to pick up the small things, (waterbottle caps, wrappers) every little bit helps!
  • Stay aware of the members in your group and your surroundings to help ensure your safety. Always use the buddy system and have a meeting spot in case you separate.
  • Be cautious the area around the water can be steep or slick in some places. If you are picking up trash in the water, watch your footing. The mud could be deep, We don’t want you to lose your shoes. Keep an eye out for falling debris and tree branches falling. There is a lot of old growth down there.
  • Don’t get into the water to retrieve trash. Use a grabber for a stick. If it isnt easily removable, leave it.
  • If you find extremely big or heavy material that needs to be removed, team up and remove it if possible. Roll tires, shopping carts etc. Try to remove mud and bring the item to the designated trash drop area.
  • It’s uncommon but if you find any hazardous materials, or find something youre uncertain about, don’t try and move it. These items may include barrels or drums with liquid inside. If you find car batteries, jogs of oil, or pesticide, chemicals or paint. Please bag them separately because they will need to be disposed of differently. Report all findings to the site leader.
  • In the unlikely event that you find a weapon or illegal item, please do not touch it. Note the location and report it immediately to the site leader.
  • If someone is injured, report the injury to the site leader as soon as possible. If severe, call 911. If they are minor we will have a basic first aid kit on site.
  • Remember to stay hydrated and pay attention to how your body is feeling. Take breaks
